TCG ORUÇREİS, a Barbaros-class frigate serving the Turkiye Naval Forces Command, has successfully completed its first voyage after undergoing extensive modernization with cutting-edge national systems. Successful sea trials: Following the modernization of its National Combat Management System (ADVENT SYS) and Electronic Sensor Systems, TCG ORUÇREİS successfully navigated its first control course in the Gölcük region on November 16, 2023.
Domestic systems at the heart: The Barbaros Half-Life Modernization Project, initiated in April 2018, aims to replace the combat systems of four frigates with domestically developed solutions. ASELSAN and HAVELSAN, leading defense contractors in Turkiye, are spearheading this initiative.
Enhanced capabilities: The modernization replaces the existing TACTICOS combat management system with B-SYS, a derivative of the GENESIS system developed domestically. Additionally, ARMERKOM’s Gun Fire Control System (TAKS) will be integrated with the 127 mm bow gun.
Open architecture for future adaptability: The new systems boast open architecture, facilitating future upgrades and integration with other platforms. This enhances flexibility and long-term operational efficiency.
Radar repositioning for optimal coverage: The project may relocate the SMART-S radar from the stern post to the bow mast, eliminating blind spots and improving overall situational awareness.
