Turkish Navy Achieves Major Milestone with First Successful Landing of Helicopter Using Domestically Developed BIRDTRAP System

Subheading: First female pilot of the Navy, Naval Captain Hatice Yeşiltaş, pilots the SH-70 Sea Hawk helicopter during historic tests.

The Turkish defense industry has achieved a major milestone with the successful completion of acceptance tests for the Helicopter Capture and Transfer System (BIRDTRAP), a critical technology that enables helicopters to land safely on ships.

BIRDTRAP was developed and localized using the capabilities of Turkish defense companies STM Defense Technologies Engineering and Trade Inc. and Altınay Defense Technologies. The system was previously restricted from being procured from Canada for use on Turkish Naval Forces ships.

Key points:

BIRDTRAP successfully enabled the SH-70 Sea Hawk helicopter to land safely on TCG ISTANBUL during tests.
The system was piloted by Naval Captain Hatice Yeşiltaş, the Navy’s only female pilot.
BIRDTRAP will increase the localization rate in national ships and has the potential to become an export item for the Turkish defense industry.
